Robin van Persie pulls out of Netherlands squad with a thigh injury

Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has pulled out of the Dutch squad due to a thigh injury.

Netherlands will face Germany in an international friendly on Wednesday and the former Arsenal striker will now stay in England because of this injury.

Van Persie played in United’s thriling 3-2 win over Aston Villa on Saturday but he will miss the friendly match which will be played on Amsterdam Arena. According to reports, van Persie spoke with Dutch coach Louis van Gaal and informed him about his injury.

Van Persie’s strike partner at United, Wayne Rooney will also be missing from international duty after the England striker suffered an ankle injury during United’s victory against Villa and was substituted in the 79th minute.

Wolfsburg striker Bas Dost will replace Van Persie in the squad for the fixture, although Klass Jan Huntelaar is favorite to start as center-forward on Wednesday for the Dutch.
